Physical Education Curriculum Overview 2015

Physical Education at APS in 2015 will see students across all age groups learning about a wide variety of sports and the strategies involved in these sports. The skills learnt are not only great for furthering student knowledge across different sporting areas but also fantastic for confidence and morale.

Prep, Year 1 and Year 2

In Year Prep, One, and Two students will be focusing on the development of fundamental motor skills such as bouncing, catching, kicking, leaping, dodging, and running among others. They be able to apply these skills to minor game situations. They will also develop spatial awareness and the theme of working cooperatively and fairly with others. We will also be providing different sport opportunities within the curriculum such as the Junior Athletics morning and swimming program. There will of course be other opportunities for the students in the lower years to engage in physical activity through ride2school day and other exciting things throughout the year.

Year 3 and Year 4

In Grades Three and Four, the students will be working on learning the rules of various sports and develop tactical thinking within games. Students will not only develop their skills in different sports but will also develop their game sense. Again, playing fairly and including others will be a major theme. In terms 3 & 4 students will have the opportunity to take part in Friday Sports sessions which involve training for Term 3’s Athletics Carnival and preparing students for interschool sport in 2016.

Year 5 and Year 6

In Grades Five and Six, students will be participating confidently in a variety of sports and looking at tactics within each game more analytically. Students in these year levels will continue to work on major themes such as communication, teamwork and sportsmanship, which closely link in with the Summer and Winter Sports program. There will also be a large emphasis on skill refinement throughout various sporting contexts.

2015 is really shaping up to be a great year in sport at Altona Primary School with all students hitting the ground running…

There are many great opportunities for students to be involved with various activities, which will enrich their time at Altona Primary School. Some of these activities include Swimming, Cross Country, Athletics, Hoop Time Basketball, and Milo in2cricket just to name a few. These activities really are a great way to develop knowledge, confidence, skill, and sportsmanship whilst having fun.

Have a great year.
