Learning an Instrument @ APS

All students will be getting involved in music through their specialist classes and will explore the musical elements through a fun and engaging program. There are many opportunities for students to further their musical skills by taking up an instrument. The programs for specific instruments are as follows:

Mr Gilpin and Mr Rouse will be running after school ukulele lessons for students in Grade 1 and 2. These classes are aimed at getting the children familiar with the instrument and its chord structures.

The group has come about due to the number of parents who have enquired about their child joining Guitar Group. Unfortunately Guitar Group is only offered to students from grades 3 to 6 because of the size of the instrument and the vast number of students in these cohorts. Ukulele is the perfect instrument to play before moving onto the guitar (strumming, chords, plucking, using a pic, understanding the fretboard…) Click here for more information.

Mr Rouse, Mr Gilpin and Leigh Enright will be running after school music lessons for students for guitar, bass guitar, drums and keyboard from grade 3 to 6. These classes are aimed at getting the children familiar with the instruments. They will be grouped according to skill level to ensure a targeted teaching approach appropriate to their needs. Click here for more information.

Carl Manuell will be running one-on-one drum lessons during school hours on Thursday and Friday. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to receive individually targeted and tailored instruction on drumming and notation. Lessons cost $30 for half an hour. For more information see office staff or feel free to contact Carl directly on 0417543853.

Piano Lessons, Beginner Guitar Lessons

Tim Nelson will be running piano and beginner guitar lessons on Wednesdays and Thursdays. These one-on-one sessions are fantastic for focused learning and musical theory.  Junior Choir for students from grades 2 – 4, practice will happen during lunchtime. This program is free and allows the students a chance to learn about singing and to perform in front of the school at Assembly.

Senior Sing

Senior Sing is a choir program run for the grade 5/6 students with a focus on contemporary music and harmonising. Practice will be happening during lunchtime. This is a free program which gives students the opportunity to perform within the school and at community events, it allows students to explore singing in a group and develop performance skills.

Rock Band Program

Mr Rouse and Mr Gilpin will be running a rock band program for grade 5/6 students. If students would like to form a band with their friends they can speak to Mr Rouse to organise a time during recess or snack for them to practice. Practice times are very limited so students will need to get in quick.
